What if a mirror, a mat, and a handful of colorful toys could change a child’s life forever?
In the quiet corners of rural Nicaragua—places like El Tuma-La Dalia, Rancho Grande, Waslala, and El Ayote—aren’t just remote towns on a map. They are now homes to something deeply hopeful: Early Stimulation Rooms, lovingly equipped and designed to help children reach their fullest potential from the very start.
At AMOS, we believe in giving every child the best possible beginning. That belief has taken shape—literally—in rooms filled with soft mats, gym balls, mirrors, toy shelves, and brightly-colored learning materials. Each toy is chosen not only for its play value but for its ability to stimulate a child’s developing brain during the most critical years of life.
But these rooms are more than physical spaces—they are hubs of possibilities.

A Place Where Futures Begin
Each of the four rooms now operating—one in each of the communities mentioned above—is guided by the national health guidelines from the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health (MINSA). These standards emphasize that early stimulation is more than play; it’s a structured, science-based process that involves active family participation and skilled healthcare guidance.
Children aged 0 to 6 who visit these spaces are often referred through key health programs like Todos con Voz or Programa Canguro, or may be identified as needing extra support due to developmental delays, disabilities, or extended hospital stays.
That’s why we’ve trained local healthcare workers in each community in hands-on techniques that respond to each child’s individual needs and milestones. It’s not only about reaching developmental goals—it’s about nurturing every child’s unique rhythm, abilities, and curiosity.

The Details That Matter
One of the most beautiful aspects of these rooms? The attention to the little things.
- Each toy, from sensory balls to mirrors, has three copies to ensure quick replacement if damaged—because we know that wear and tear is part of real play.
- Art materials like tempera paint, crayons, playdough, and colored paper invite creativity, while supporting motor skills and emotional expression.
- The design of each room is safe, welcoming, and age-appropriate, offering different tools for different stages of early childhood.
It’s a reminder that every child deserves a space to explore, to imagine, and to grow—no matter where they are born.

What Comes Next
We’re not stopping here. Four more rooms are on the way—in new communities across Nicaragua—so that even more children and families can access these life-changing opportunities. And as these spaces multiply, so does our hope.
But we need you.
