It was a rainy night in the rural community of Malacatoya 2.
Griselda, a devoted mother, was living through one of the hardest moments of her life. Her 3-year-old son, José Andrés, had a high fever and was struggling to breathe. The heavy rains had made the river impassable. They were trapped.

At 10 p.m., desperate and afraid her little boy might not survive the night, Griselda picked up the phone and called Fátima — a local health volunteer trained by AMOS.

“She was crying… desperate,” Fátima shared. “José Andrés had a fever and was breathing heavily. She feared he wouldn’t make it to dawn.”

All night long, Fátima stayed by the phone. She asked careful questions, guided Griselda step by step, and helped her administer the right dose of medicine to bring her son’s fever down. The river still stood between them, but thanks to Fátima’s presence and care, Griselda didn’t feel alone.

At sunrise, the river finally subsided enough for Griselda to cross with her son. Fátima examined José Andrés right away and recognized the signs of severe pneumonia. She quickly arranged for emergency transport to the health center, where the diagnosis was confirmed. José Andrés spent five days in the hospital.

Today, he is healthy, back at home, and smiling again. And this Christmas, Griselda is especially grateful.
