Do you remember Justo? He is one of the children who participated in one of our oral health preventive campaign at the Villa Guadalupe Clinic this year.
Alongside his little friend Mía, Justo joined other kids and families to learn how daily brushing and healthy habits can protect their teeth. These lessons may have seemed simple at first, but they carried the potential to make a big difference.

✨ When Prevention Meets Reality
As part of the campaign, every child was evaluated by the dentist. That’s when we found our that Justo had cavities requiring immediate treatment, and Mía needed a tooth extraction to prevent infection.
For both families, accessing these kinds of dental procedures was simply out of reach. Like many in vulnerable communities, the costs and logistics of treatment created barriers that seemed impossible to overcome.

A Journey Towards Care
The first step in improving Mia and Justo´s oral health was a dental cleaning and the application of fluoride varnish to help prevent cavities in healthy teeth. Fluoride varnish is a proven preventive measure to reduce cavities in children by 40% but is scarce and expensive in most clinics.
Providing this preventive measure for children with high risk of dental decay is one of the most important aspects of the campaign.
Then, thanks to the support of our donors, transportation was arranged for the children and their mothers, taking them from the Villa Guadalupe Clinic to the Samaritan Clinic in Nejapa.
At the Samaritan Clinic, Justo received the fillings he needed, and Mía had her extraction. Both children were cared for with professionalism and compassion every step of the way, ensuring that they felt safe and supported throughout the process.

Voices from Mothers
For their mothers, the experience brought not only relief, but also new understanding:
“Since Justo learned the importance of brushing and what happens when you don’t, it’s now easier to get him to brush his teeth. I’m grateful for this program and the chance to improve my son’s oral health.” — Justo’s mother
“Now, as a mother, I know I must be more attentive to her dental care.” — Mía’s mother
More Than Healthy Teeth
This story goes beyond cavities and treatments. It’s about restoring comfort, health, and confidence to two young lives.
It’s also a reminder that prevention, education, and access to care go hand in hand. For Justo and Mía, what began as a community health campaign became a life-changing experience, proof that small lessons can truly make a big impact.
Thank you for celebrating these brighter, healthier smiles with us.
