This week, we invite you to read this story of hope about a mother who had her prenatal and postpartum check-ups with us.
This week’s story of hope is about Belkis, a woman who receives medical care at the Villa Guadalupe Clinic.
Belkis is 31 years old and has lived all her life near Villa Guadalupe, a vulnerable neighborhood where the city dump used to be located. She lives there with her husband and her two children, an 8-year-old boy and a two-month-old baby girl.
“I have been coming to the Villa Guadalupe Clinic for about 3 years now,” said Belkis.
“I have brought my older son when he gets sick, I did my family planning with the doctor here, and I also got all my prenatal check-ups here while I was pregnant this year.”
“I am very grateful for the care and service at this clinic. All the staff are very professional and kind. They are very organized, the medical equipment works, they have laboratory and ultrasound services, and it is very close to my home. And, we also get the medicines we need for free.”
“I had a high-risk pregnancy – I had to be hospitalized twice during my pregnancy.”
“One time, I came to this Clinic for my prenatal check-up, and I started to feel unwell. When the doctor examined me and saw my test results, she immediately sent me to the hospital. I had a severe kidney infection and administering the treatment could have been risky for my baby’s well-being. At the hospital, doctors treated the symptoms until it was safer to receive the full treatment.”
“Thanks to God, I carried my baby to full term. I had to have a C-section, but despite all my challenges, my baby girl was born healthy, and she is growing well. She is two months old now. I am very happy and I give thanks to God and to the Villa Guadalupe Clinic for helping me during my pregnancy.”
Most recently, Belkis came to the Clinic because a few of her stitches had loosened up, and she needed follow-up care to make sure the wound-healing process was going well. She trusts this Clinic and knows that here, she can get the care she and her family need and deserve.
“I don’t know what I would have done without the Villa Guadalupe Clinic this year. I could not have afforded all the tests, ultrasounds, doctor’s visits, and medications at a private clinic. Here, I get high-quality health care at a cost I can afford.”
“Donors to AMOS are helping many people through this clinic, not just women, but children, elders, and pregnant moms. This clinic cares for them, and our health and well-being would not be the same without it. Thank you!”
