Sandra is 21 years old and lives in the community of El Socorro, Matagalpa, where she was born and raised.
Currently, Sandra lives with her partner in a house they share with her partner’s parents. There, she is in charge of cooking, washing, and cleaning, while the rest of the household members work for a living.
Recently, Sandra visited Isaac Fley, the Health Promoter in her community, and asked for a pregnancy test. That’s when she found out she was pregnant with her second child.
Sandra is now 7-and-a-half months pregnant. She has been attending all her pregnancy check-ups and taking care of her health. Isaac is regularly visiting and monitoring her to make sure everything is fine.
But just as Tropical Storm Bonnie was hitting Nicaragua, Sandra had a complication arise.
Sandra was experiencing a lot of pain due to a kidney infection, and she needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible. But because heavy rain had overflowed the river, Sandra was trapped in her community.
Thanks to Isaac Fley and the community network, Sandra was able to cross the river!
Isaac contacted a neighbor who owns a 4×4 vehicle. Thankfully, the neighbor accepted and quickly helped the pregnant woman. Once she arrived to the hospital, the doctors confirmed Sandra’s baby was healthy and proceeded to give her the proper treatment.
Thank you for helping us train Health Promoters like Isaac, so they have the knowledge to support their communities and save lives. Stay tuned to find out how Sandra’s pregnancy continues!
