Together, Marta and Reynaldo have spent nearly 27 years working at AMOS.
Twenty-seven years of welcoming patients, keeping spaces running, coordinating behind the scenes, and showing up — day after day.
Their stories reveal how AMOS’s mission is sustained not only through programs, but through people who live its values in practical, consistent ways.
“Serving With Love and Commitment”
Being part of AMOS means service, commitment, and love for others. I’m proud to work here.
Marta
When Marta first arrived at AMOS, she came through a neighbor’s recommendation to work by the day as part of the cleaning staff.
At the time, she could not have imagined that sixteen years later she would be serving as an Operations Assistant, helping coordinate many of the daily processes that allow AMOS to function.
Her growth did not happen overnight.
Little by little, Marta began supporting different areas: the guesthouse, the kitchen, field activities, and administrative tasks. With each step, she gained a deeper understanding of how the organization works and how many moving parts are involved in providing consistent, quality care.
One experience, however, gave personal meaning to everything she does.
Marta met Heizel, a young woman from El Calderón, Chinandega, who traveled regularly to Managua for cancer treatment. Despite the physical toll of her illness, Heizel arrived each time with warmth, gratitude, and a strong desire to live.
Marta made sure her stays were as comfortable as possible. Not because it was in her job description, but because accompaniment, for her, is part of service.
Heizel later passed away. Marta remembers her as a fighter. And that memory continues to shape how Marta approaches her work.
For her, AMOS exists to provide medical care and accompaniment, improve quality of life, and offer hope. Knowing that her daily efforts contribute to that purpose is what keeps her going.
She describes working at AMOS as a calling. One she hopes will continue for many years to come.
“Showing Up Where I’m Needed”
“What motivates me is reaching different communities and helping improve people’s health.”
-Reynaldo
Reynaldo’s path into AMOS also began simply.
He saw a newspaper ad for a maintenance position and decided to apply.
Eleven years later, he is a multipurpose staff member — a role that reflects flexibility more than a title.
On any given day, Reynaldo might be tending the gardens, repairing infrastructure, or handling administrative errands. His work happens quietly, but it creates the conditions for everything else to happen.
During his years with AMOS, many encounters have stayed with him. One, in particular, was meeting a fourteen-year-old girl who had already become a mother.
Moments like this remind Reynaldo why prevention, education, and access to health services matter — and why showing up in different communities, rural and urban, makes a difference.
What keeps him motivated is being part of those efforts alongside AMOS teams and international mission teams. He sees his work as a way of contributing, in practical ways, to better health and well-being.
His hope is that AMOS continues expanding its reach and that, with donor support, the organization can keep doing good where it is most needed.
The Bridge That Sustains the Mission
Marta and Reynaldo have different responsibilities.
But together, they represent something essential: the steady, often unseen work that sustains AMOS.
They are part of the living bridge between those who give and those who receive care.
When you support AMOS, you become part of that bridge too.

Thank you for these “behind the scenes” reports. They help us better understand the work that AMOS does, how vital it is to those you serve, and how wonderful those who serve are. Keep up the good work. Thanks to each and every worker in whatever capacity. May God bless each one and the ministries of AMOS.
