Petronilo Gaitan (with hat), Health Promoter of Fila Grande

Lidia was so worried about her three-year-old son, José. He had been coughing for days, and now he had difficulty breathing.

José had a fever, and didn’t want to eat. What worried Lidia most was seeing his chest muscles straining so hard to keep him breathing. She was anguished.

She walked as quickly as possible to the community clinic, carrying her son in her arms. She knew Petronilo Gaitan, Health Promoter of Fila Grande, would be able to help them for free.

Once there, Petronilo examined José and identified that he had symptoms of pneumonia.

Thanks to your generosity and compassionate support, Petronilo has been trained to treat the most common diseases, such as pneumonia and diarrhea, and his community clinic is equipped with essential medicines.

“I gave him the first doses of amoxicillin, acetaminophen, and salbutamol, just like I have been instructed to do in trainings with AMOS,” said Petronilo. “I then handed more medicines to the mom and showed her how to give them to her son.”

“The next day, I visited them at home,” Petronilo told us. Little José was still sick, but doing much better. He had no fever and was already eating again.

A week later, José had completely recovered.

“I am proud to be able to see God working through me to help children like José. Without medicines at our community clinic and my training from AMOS, this child would have died.”

Thank you for helping community health workers like Petronilo Gaitan save lives and bring hope to moms like Lidia and babies like José.

Your support means so much to Petronilo and to the community of Fila Grande. Thank you for the health and hope you share with them!
